Transformative Dining Throughout Time

When you think of 'dinner' what comes to mind? Do you picture an appetizer, main course, and dessert? The majority of people would have said that … several years ago. Today, they might say 'dinner' is ordering a few things off the menu until satisfied.

Millennials have quickly picked up on this new trend. Tapas style restaurants are popping up all over Baltimore; like Cava Mezze, Tapas Teatro, Mezze, and 1157 Bar & Kitchen. Some restaurants are even expanding their small plates section and minimizing their entree selection on the menu.

American style tapas allows people to order several small plates to share with dining companions. It allows people to try several items off the menu and enjoy a social experience as you bond with your friends, family, or significant other over the dishes you are sharing. Because we all know, the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach!

Over time, the practice of ordering multiple plates of food to share has evolved. Traditional tapas originated in Spain, where it means ‘bar snacks’, typically meant to go with a cocktail or a glass of wine. Recently in America, tapas has become a style of dining. People are enjoying several small plates of food as their whole meal. Aside from its ingredients, portion size also sets American tapas apart from Spanish style tapas.

Food has always brought people together. Since tapas style dining has evolved in America, people can now enjoy a more social dining experience where they are able share new experiences, cuisines, and meals.

All of this tapas sounds great, right? But what do you do when you get to a restaurant that doesn’t offer small plates and you’re forced to choose just one dish? Sitting in misery as you debate between the fresh caught fish of the day or the juicy, award winning burger.

That’s where we come in.

Aiming to bring affordable dining, a social experience, and the opportunity to enjoy several dishes. We create the menu just for you, so the only decision you have to make is whether you’re going to add the drink pairing or not. Let’s be real though...who wouldn’t want to add a drink pairing?!

The concept of Tapas in the City is ideal for any occasion - birthdays, date night, girls night out, holiday parties, you name it! At these events, everyone is seated at communal tables - often 2 tables of fifteen. This way you can share your experience with everyone around you, meet new likeminded people who love food as much as you do, and most importantly enjoy a great meal.
